Food and Nutrition

We have an onsite Chef, trained and qualified to level 2 in food safety, all of our staff are regularly trained to maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. Our meals are freshly prepared at the nursery on a daily basis using fresh ingredients.

 

All our children are encouraged to make healthy choices when selecting foods to eat. Our practitioners at the nursery promote healthy eating and our Toddlers and Pre-School enjoy serving themselves (with support dependent on age and stage of development) to breakfast, lunch and tea. The children also often make their own sandwiches, which is all designed to promote independence. The children also use porcelain white jugs to pour their own milk and water as we are keen for children to use ‘real’ utensils rather than plastic.

 

We recognise the importance of a well balanced diet for young children, providing a varied menu, expertly prepared by our chef. Children’s individual needs, including religious, cultural or medical, dietary requirements, are catered for. We offer a Vegetarian and Traditional English Menu, and whilst we don’t specifically use Halal meat we do offer a Quorn option as an alternative to meat.

 

Breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea is served, with a light snack mid-morning and late afternoon.

EHO star ratings

 

Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) employed by many local Councils decide the score/star rating of each food business following a planned food hygiene inspection. Inspections take place between every six months to two years, depending on the nature of the business and history of compliance with food law.

Following an inspection, a star rating from 1 to 5 is awarded, with 5 being the highest rating possible.

We have achieved a 4 star rating - Very Good ("good food safety management, high standard of compliance to food safety legislation").
